YOU NOW HAVE THIS WONDERFUL STANDARD POODLE PUPPY or dog,
" SO NOW WHAT "

Picture
They are not your average dog.
If you fail to understand what makes your Standard Poodle tick, you'll be tearing your hair out with frustration.
I know just how stubborn, destructive and , increasingly, just plain naughty.
" imagine my shock and frustration " Sound familiar ?
If you'er standard poodle owner, I'm prepared to bet my bottom dollar that by now you'er beginning to mutter
"tell me about it! " because what I know now, is that all of these behaviors are very common in Standard Poodles.
" I quickly come to the conclusion,"
these so-called dogs  experts couldn't possibly have ever had a standard poodle of their own.
Some people feel they are being “mean” by restricting a puppy or teaching them rules. A “bad” owner, will soon create a monster puppy that will rule the house even if they have the most submissive, passive puppy. There are many great TV shows that are free to watch that will educate you on how to be a good pack leader, such as “The End of My Leash” and 'The dog Whisperer'.” Know that being a leader and teaching the puppy boundaries and what good behavior is, will equal a happy confident, well behaved puppy in no time. And that will last a lifetime! I guess in regard to the trials and tribulations of puppyhood, the saying “this too shall pass,” would be appropriate to use.

So Finally, someone to answer your questions....
Most common problems;
Nipping / the bite, Standard Poodles will nip at you and at your clothing when getting  excited, going places, at children, and play times. And sometimes the just nipping then turns into a bite.
Today my Standard Poodle of 3 years who I have raised since 9 weeks old, nipped as my new  neighbour  left my home. He's never showed aggression, never nipped, or shown any type of dominance, he certainly likes to alert when people are at the door with barking and growling but is then quite friendly and likes to engage with people and allows everyone to feel comfortable in the home. Today however, for no apparent reason he nipped at the pant leg as my neighbour's back was turned as he was leaving the home. I said oh, I think he's just playing with you... I've never seen this behaviour before. What does this mean? My new neighbour did not greet or make eye contact or engage with him and seemed standoffish.

Solve problem;
Teach them and be consisted at the beginning with the hold family all doing the same things and not letting your new poodle away with the behaviours you don't want.
Lets look at it from the poodles point of view

Try this = Don't start playing with your puppy / dog by pulling at toys when in their mouth. This teaches them to pull and mouths  your hands/ nip at you / also incurious  destructive behavior around the home.
Don't play ruff and tumble and let him bite, even in play, as this brings out his prey instinct and lets not forget he was breed as a hunting dog. Poodles are to have soft mouths, gentle mouthing. when he does nip / bite you , pull back and yelp out in a high pitch like this really hurt, pull away from him and walk away do not look at your poodle for a minute or to.  As this will tell your puppy he has gone too far and this hurts. For this is what his brothers and sisters did in the litter and what Mother poodle teaches her young.
When your poodle gets very excited and goes to nip, be still , calm and stop what you are doing, turn away from your poodle till he is calm and try again in the active you are doing.

BEHAVIOR SOLUTIONS

If you want to know what happiness looks like, just watch your poodle who has found a ball. For as long as that ball is in his mouth, it will be the most wonderful, fascinating thing in the world to him.Someone asked me recently what we can do to make poodles happy, and the answer's pretty simple:  Not much! poodles are naturally inclined to be happy.

You See, poodles become totally consumed with what ever has their attention at any given moment, and that can bring them such joy-- whether it's a stick, a tennis ball , or just knowing that they make us happy.
For my poodles, I know that the smell of the out doors and the pine forest/rabbits makes them happy, a day at the beach,touching the dirt makes them happy .
It's because they'er totally in tune with and focused on their environment.
Poodles are always happy when they have something new to investigate--- especially new scents. Changing the route of your daily walks from time to time might be a small thing for you, but the world of new smells will be like a trip to Disneyland for your poodle.
That's one of the things I love about poodles . Humans often over think happiness, but Poodles will always find a way to be happy in the moment. We should all learn a lesson from them.

Gaius Standard Poodles =
IN FACT, THE BIGGEST THING STANDING BETWEEN A POODLE AND HIS HAPPINESS MAY BE HIS HUMAN.
Poodles live to please us. That's why they pay such close attention to our moods and expressions. As social animals, poodles not only want to please; they also want to feel acceptance from us as their as Master or ( pack leaders). When you set rules and boundaries, it's not about drawing up a list of " do not" instructions for your poodle as much as creation a sense of structure. Every  poodle will be happier when there is structure in his life.
